GETFAMILIAR
Born in Montego Bay – Jamaica, Dreggae was surrounded by music before he can remember. He lived in Keystone, St. Catherine while attending Wolmer’s Boys, an institution known for educating several popular Dancehall artists. He left Wolmer’s in 1999, migrating to Atlanta where he attended Georgia Southern University. Music became an outlet for expressing Dreggae’s passion for loved ones lost and current issues affecting Jamaica the moment he left.
The journey officially began at Georgia Southern in 2002 with a duo T.E.F.L.O.N, where Dregggae joined forces with Peezy, a fellow classmate from Wolmer’s to record an innovative blend of Reggae & Hip Hop in their dorm room. Their raw talent was accompanied by production from 4th Branch which then included DJ Philosopy (Psych Ward) and Tarik Russian Johnston (Head Concussion). T.E.F.L.O.N remained underground resulting in Dreggae’s transition towards being a solo artist.
Dreggae joined forces with local musician ECG to win the Tupac Shakur Foundation talent search in 2009, a milestone that confirmed a promising future. In 2011 Dreggae competed in a reality talent series “Before The Fame” but his success in the finals was not aired as the show was cancelled by the CW Network. His release of The Unsigned Legend LP the same year brought a large online following which led to the success of his single We Rep JA featuring Kardinal Offishall. The follow up release “It’s Not Over” featuring a Demi Lovato sample was well received by her fans throughout the World.
Now dubbed the Unsigned Legend by his loyal supporters, the genre independent breath of fresh air proclaims it’s “Now or Never” to get heard. He bears the pressure of being a spawn of reggae royalty, determined to mirror the legacy of his Grand Uncle, King Tubby. Fueled by a passion for creating and sharing quality music, Dreggae’s cleverly delivered metaphors are easy to grasp for the avid listener and continues to flourish online despite the likes of the Microwave Generation. Atlanta’s Jamaican bred recording artist and songwriter explains his music is “a mash-up of meaningful lyrics and a catchy melody.” His impassioned delivery, with social commentary accurately portrays his perception of life; with an accent. A pioneer of his own genre Dreggae Music, this is no introduction for the voice of a new era on a quest to remain untouchable.
