It was all good just a few months ago when everyone was partying to bring in the New Year, and planning to make this 2020 the ultimate glow-up. That fantasy has sizzled ever since the Coronavirus or Covid-19 popped up and claimed the lives of thousands of people whose immune system could not fight the virus. Everyone from the politicians to online influencers has had an opinion on when would be a safe time to reopen the economy. With the fear of a worldwide recession breaking out, the senate and president’s cabinet have been battling on how to get ahead of the curve and stop the virus from further spreading. The state of Georgia has approximately 18,391 confirmed cases as of Tuesday April 22. With a higher recovery rate then actual deaths various people have spoken out about reopening the world, and taking dangerous chances just to allow citizens the opportunity to be outdoors. President Donald Trump stated just a few weeks ago that “people are going to die that have never died before.” With this rationale we can only pray that moving forward with state to state re-openings is decided intelligently enough to protect the best interests of the people.

As of yesterday, Republican Governor Brian Kemp went to the press and announced that the state will begin reopening starting with hair salons, barbershops, and certain small businesses that will be able to obey certain social distancing guidelines. The announcement created a worldwide outcry from not just the citizens living in the state, but out of state people voicing their opinions as well. Democrat Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms also weighed in on Governor Kemp’s actions stating she ‘allegedly’ was not made aware of his plans to begin reopening the state as early as Friday April 24th. Mayor Bottoms, whose mother owned a hair salon for 20 plus years is against his decision stating “you have to live to be able to fight another day.” Deaths are continuously rising state wide, and there are many people with asthma in Georgia. Gillie Da King, a Philadelphia native, recording artist, blogger, and entrepreneur made a public video shaming the citizens of Atlanta, and insinuating that the ‘higher ups’ are not looking out for the best interest of the African American community. His overall statements concluded that this is a trap to invite many more minorities to possibly become infected with the virus. Gillie who has never been 1 to bite his tongue, spoke openly and vividly that people “don’t see the gimmick going down”, and that “ni&&as can’t wait to get the Coronavirus special.” He also goes on to ask why other states not as populated with minorities are not being opened as well.  DJ Calvin also known in the industry as ‘da coordinator’ works with artists development, helping independent artist reach higher levels of success and hosting amazing mixtapes.  He took matters in his own hands and called out the “Get Down on The Floor” artist as being a clout chaser, and to “respect the black intellect and hustle that creates Atlanta!” Do you think Gillie Da King is trying to chase clout or is he stating that politicians should not be handling situations most regarded by the CDC? Take a look at the video below and tell us what you think.
